Our Mission

The Academy of Our Lady of Guam, rooted in the unique charism of Catherine McAuley, foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, is an Archdiocesan secondary school. With a dedicated faculty and staff, the school promotes the holistic development of a diverse population of young women fostering academic excellence, responsible leadership, global awareness, social justice, and compassionate service for all in the tradition of the Catholic faith.

The Academy of Our Lady of Guam students recently raised approximately $4,900.00 for FEED 25. A social justice project for the Philippines, FEED 25 assists the Ateneo de Manila University’s Ateneo Center of Educational Development (“ACED”) efforts to feed hungry children who attend Ateneo sponsored public schools.

A Financial Aid program is available to assist students with tuition costs. A Financial Aid Committee awards scholarships and tuition discounts to students whose eligibility is determined by financial and academic data provided to the school.

In addition to monetary and in-kind donations, the Academy of Our Lady of Guam also welcomes much needed volunteers to assist with school events. The school engages in several events throughout the year. Throughout the year, the school welcomes volunteers to assist with planning, organizing, and carrying these events. Many of the school’s volunteers are from current families as well as alumnae and benefactors of the school. However, everyone is welcome to join in the fun and camaraderie of these events and be part of the Academy family and traditions, such as the school’s annual 5K “Fund” Run/Walk, Songfest Family Night, and Spring Production.

OUR LADY OF CAMARIN (Our Lady of Camarin Donor: $ 50,000+)

Our Lady of Camarin is the Island patron and the Academy of Our Lady is named after her. Since 1949 our Lady of Camarin has protected and blessed the Academy, the young women, and the entire school community.

It is only fitting and proper to acknowledge the benefactor - company of family who gives generous support to the Academy.

MOTHER CATHERINE MCAULEY (Gold Donor: $ 10,000.00 - $ 24,999.99)
When Mother Catherine McAuley founded the Sisters of Mercy in 1827, she built a school to educate and to shelter homeless young women and children. Since then, the Sisters of Mercy all over Ireland, England, United States, Guam, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Philippines, South America, Central America, and the Caribbean operate schools for young women and children.

FOUNDRESS OF THE ACADEMY (Silver Donor: $5,000.00 - $9,999.99)
In 1946, right after the war, Bishop Appolinaris invited three Sisters of Mercy to Guam to start a religious order and a Catholic high school for young women. In 1949, the Bishop and the late Sister Inez Underwood opened the first Catholic high school on Guam – The Academy of Our Lady – with 36 young women. Since then the Academy has flourished and saw over 4,500 alumnae who can be found as leaders in the Church, medicine, law, education, business, politics, cooperation, shapers and movers of our society.

LEADERS OF THE ACADEMY (Bronze Donor: $1,000.00 - $4,999.99)
Leadership is vital for the growth of the Academy of Our Lady. Leaders have vision, give direction and empower. They are risk takers and strategic planners. The Academy of Our Lady finds this type of leadership in our Bishops, the principals, the pastors, the board members, teachers, and definitely the parents of the school community.

FRIENDS OF THE ACADEMY (Friends Donor: $1,000.00 - $4,999.99)
Camaraderie at the Academy is always treasured and present. The Academy of Our Lady salutes all the many friends, benefactors, alumnae, and families that have supported the school and continue to support the school in its mission and vision.
