.
L-R:  Mrs. Mary Meeks (AOLG Principal), Josephine B. Ramirez, Christiana Jo Ramirez (Pilar Poblacion Malilay $2,000 Scholarship recipient), Mrs. Pilar Poblacion Malilay, and Sr. Francis Jerome Cruz, RSM (AOLG President).
.
Congratulations to Christiana Jo Ramirez, a senior at the Academy of Our Lady of Guam who was awarded the Pilar Poblacion Malilay Scholarship (est. 2006) for the school year 2007-2008.  The fund was established by Mrs. Malilay’s four daughters who are Academy alumnae and who have named the scholarship in honor of their mother.Mrs. Malilay was recruited back in 1952 by the U.S. Navy to help on Guam as a nurse.  Mrs. Malilay and her daughters are committed to education at the Academy.  During assembly, Sister Francis Jerome Cruz (AOLG President) enlightened the Academians that “Mrs. Malilay embodies a steely character who believes in the power of education driven by faith.”  Each of Mrs. Malilay’s four daughters educational achievements can be attributed to their mother’s sacrifices, dedication and trust in God.
The Academy of Our Lady is most grateful to the founding members of The Pilar Poblacion Malilay Scholarship; Dr. Josephine Malilay, a 1974 graduate is an epidemiologist for the Centers of Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia; Attorney Grace Malilay, a 1977 graduate is a patent attorney with Cargill, Inc. Minneapolis, Minnesota; Agnes Malilay White, a 1979 graduate is active in the Guam Home School Association and has a BA in Biology from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri as well as a BSN from St. Louis University, Missouri; and Dr. Janice Malilay (Martin), a 1980 graduate is a dentist at A Family Dental Center in Tamuning.

The Jane Wha-Young Kim Scholarship established at the Academy of Our Lady
The Academy of Our Lady High School was recently graced with the visit of one of its alumnae, Ms. Yuri Kim.  On August 9, 2007, Ms. Kim announced the Jane Wha-Young Kim scholarship set up at the school in honor of her late mother.  Ms. Kim’s late mother was an avid believer in education.  According to Ms. Kim, by establishing the annual scholarship, the best of her mother’s spirit will live on in Guam.

Filled with fond memories of the Academy, Ms. Kim hopes that Academy graduates will have the same desire she has to apply the lessons learned at the school to give back to the community and to help other young ladies have the same opportunity they were fortunate to have to attend the Academy.  As she eloquently puts it, “Prayer is a way of life – your whole life is a prayer.” When asked what her fondest memory of the Academy was, Ms. Kim stated with a reminiscent smile, “My dad always picking me up at the Academy.”  As an active student, Ms. Kim’s father always had to pick her up after her many activities.  He loved the Academy and always shared in the memories the daughter built while attending high school.
.
Yuri and Sister Francis Jerome fondly recollect her high school days while they glance through the yearbook from her senior year.
