| Tuition Assistance |
| The Academy has established a Financial Aid Program to benefit students in need of economic assistance. A Financial Aid Committee awards scholarships and tuition discounts to students whose eligibility is determined by financial and academic data provided on the Financial Aid Form. Information and forms may be requested at the Business Office. |
|
| |
| Advanced Placement Program |
| Advanced Placement (AP) Courses are offered in various subject areas. The Advanced Placement Program provides an opportunity for secondary students to pursue and receive credit for college-level course work at the secondary school level. The AP Program helps high school students complete college-level courses and permits colleges to evaluate, acknowledge, and encourage that accomplishment through the granting of appropriate credit and / or placement. Many colleges award sophomore standing to incoming first year students who have successfully completed three or more yearlong AP courses. AP Scholar Awards are granted for college-level performance (grades of 3 or better) in the equivalent of three or more yearlong AP courses. It is also noted, however, that the AP examination is open to any candidate who wishes to participate. |
|
| |
| Academic Failure |
Students failing three or more classes in any given quarter will be placed on academic probation. If that student fails three or more classes at the end of that semester, she will be advised to transfer. Any student who fails a required course for a semester must repeat the subject for the semester before receiving full credit.
Summer school grades will only be accepted for remediation purposes. A student who fails a course at Academy has the opportunity to make up for that failure by taking a comparable class as approved by the Counseling Department. The grade the student receives in summer school will be averaged with the grade she earned at Academy. Grades for summer or extension courses taken to accelerate a student’s class standing will not be accepted in place of a required class or of an elective. |
|
| |
| Parent Teacher Conferences |
The Academy encourages parents / guardians to be actively involved in the progress of their daughter in the classroom. The two regularly scheduled conference days for meeting teachers are at the end of the first and third quarters. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to contact teachers and counselors at any time during the year to discuss the progress of their daughter. Periodic Progress Reports from the teachers may also be requested at the main office. |
|
| |
| Graduation |
For graduation from the Academy the following requirements are to be met:
- The student must have successfully completed all the required courses.
- The student must have met the minimum requirement of 26.5 credit hours in senior high, grades 9-12.
- Payment of tuition fees, graduation fees and all financial obligations must be met.
- The student must be responsible for failure grades, and must turn in grades to counselor.
ONLY STUDENTS WHO HAVE MET THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS WILL PARTICIPATE IN THE GRADUATION CEREMONIES. |
|
| |
| Withdrawals and Transfers |
Parents / Guardians who wish to transfer their daughter from the school must notify the Academy in writing and sign a release form so that the records may be sent to the new receiving school. Students must return all textbooks and library books to their teachers and librarian prior to withdrawal. Official Transcripts will not be issued until all financial obligations are met. Paid tuition fees are not refundable |
|
| |
| Admission |
The Academy of Our Lady of Guam admits students of any race, religion, ethnic or national origin to receive all rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national or ethnic origin in the administration of educational policies, admission policies, athletic, and other school-administered programs. The Admissions Committee reviews, discusses and approves applicants for admission into the Academy. This committee is composed of members of the administration, faculty and staff to assist the Principal in the decision-making. Admission is based on an evaluation of the following areas of concern: |
- academic proficiency
- satisfactory attendance records
- satisfactory conduct reports
- positive attitude toward the educational process
- foreign students must have a student visa (1-20) on file
|
| For Senior year, only incoming off-island students will be accepted at the Academy unless special considerations have been made with the administration. |
Since the Academy is maintained and operated through tuition and fees, it is assumed that the parents or guardians of the students applying for admission will be able to meet their financial obligations. It is further assumed that other entry requirements (e.g. health records, transcripts, signed Agreement Response, etc.) must be satisfactorily met by all students. |
Tuition may be paid using one of three payment plans: |
- full payment of the year - due date is August 1st;
- payment made by the quarter - due dates are the 15th of August, October, January, March; any late payment will result in a 10% surcharge and will revert back to the monthly payment plan.
- payment made monthly - due date is the 1st of every month and no later than the 10th. A 10% surcharge will be assessed after the 10th of the month.
|
A collection fee may be assessed if the account is over 30 days past due. When a student wishes to attend the Academy, whether for the first time or on a continual basis, an application must be completed. Due to limited space and facilities, admission to the Academy will be determined on a first-come, first-serve basis.
|
| |
TUITION FEES WHETHER PAID YEARLY, QUARTERLY OR MONTHLY ARE NON-REFUNDABLE WHEN A STUDENT TRANSFERS. |
|

| Student Volunteer Service Program |
All students of the Academy of Our Lady are required to perform community service as a way of increasing their awareness of the need for compassion and justice in their island community and in the world. Monitoring of the Community Service requirement will be done by the Theology Department. Students are strongly encouraged to vary their type of service from year to year. The following general criteria is also set to determine what services will be considered community service:
- The service must not involve any form of remuneration.
- The service must not be for activities that are considered part of a person’s general responsibility as a family member. (i.e. babysitting younger siblings, yard work, errands for an elderly grandparent figure, etc.)
- The community service form must be signed by an adult responsible for overseeing the community service project
*Participation in special events that are sponsored by non-profit organizations to promote dignity and life affirming issues is acceptable at the discretion of the Theology Department faculty. |
|
|
| Honors and Awards |
The following are criteria for honors and awards:
- To be eligible for the Principal’s List, a student must have As in all seven subjects.
- To be eligible for the Honor Roll, a student must have all As and Bs.
- To be eligible for the Academic Performance List, a student must be selected by five of her teachers as demonstrating exceptional effort in her course studies. (Students may be recognized for measuring up not just in academics and effort, but in attitude, classroom demeanor, promptness and quality homework, enthusiasm for subject and general commitment to excellence.)
All of the above lists are placed on the bulletin board in the main lobby. Awards are presented to deserving students at the close of each school year for outstanding scholastic, athletic and service achievements. |
|
| |
| Homework |
The school has three, four or seven classes per day with only occasionally scheduled study periods; therefore parents can expect the student to have an average of 2 1/2 to 3 hours of homework per night. During exam periods, this time may be extended depending on your daughter’s study habits. We encourage parents to oversee their daughter’s homework and study time to assure quality work and an efficient use of time.
The parents of a student who has been, or will be absent three or more days may request homework from the Main Office. A student absent less than three (3) days is encouraged to get assignments from classmates. |
|
| |
| Examinations |
QUARTER AND SEMESTER EXAMINATIONS are given at the end of each term. Exams will not be administered to individual students until their financial obligations have been met. Academic Grades are based on achievement in class-work, assignments, course examinations and fulfillment of other academic criteria that the instructor has set. Student Progress Reports are issued at the mid-quarter and report cards are issued at the close of each quarter. |
